The Belfry.
The belfry project space is co-directed by Ami Clarke and Ananda Pellerin. The belfry is located at St Johns Church on Bethnal Green, and is supported by the Parochial Church Council.
Aims.
To show work that reacts to the interior of the belfry’s unusual atmosphere and architectural presence, that shows an alternative take on the idea of exhibition and allows for an un-conventional approach to the gallery space.
We are particularly interested to show work that is made in direct response to the belfry. This could be seen in a number of different contexts: - address the architectural space that is the belfry. - take account of the location – ie. in relation to the church, to what a belfry might be/have been used for. - be seen in relation to its location in Bethnal Green, etc. - address the ideological presence or position of the church.
Installation Performance Sound Film Text
Painting and sculpture, and all work that has been previously made with no relation to the space; the belfry, will not be considered, unless part of a broader work that takes into account the context of the belfry.
