Adrienne Outlaw explores the often contentious debate about science, nature and religion and how that impacts the bioethical dialogue. Outlaw's work considers the dichotomy between emotional and intellectual thought in an increasingly technological world. Much of her large and small scale sculpture and installation is interactive.
Outlaw has been recognized with grants, fellowships and inclusion in several museum and public art collections throughout the United States and abroad. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, Tennessee State Museum and Cheekwood Museum of Art in Nashville, TN. She exhibited in The Republic of Korea's 5th International Biennale.
Outlaw's work has been reviewed in international critical art magazines and featured in several art catalogues and books. An accomplished speaker, Outlaw has guest taught and lectured at galleries, schools and museums across the country. She holds a BFA from the School of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MLAS from Vanderbilt University.
Extending her art practice beyond the studio, Outlaw regularly involves hundreds of participants in her community-based works. She maintains an active studio assistantship and internship program, mentoring high school and college students, recent art graduates and others interested in the arts. She has served on the arts advisory boards of six arts organizations and has reported extensively on the arts for newspapers, magazines and radio. Outlaw holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MLAS from Vanderbilt University.
Outlaw co-developed the NAA web site, http://www.nashville.areaarts.org/, which links artists to writers and curators. Her latest project is to develop affordable live/work space for artists in Nashville, Tennessee, where she lives and works.
