Coral Churchill works with bright, luminescent colours, painting reminiscent forms that remain just unrecognisable. Dark void backgrounds reference deep sea and space photography, while free form improvised structures unfurl in the foreground. Morphologies are the foundation to the ideas behind the work. Different mediums are layered into composites that form mindscapes, the colours echoing neon and fluorescence, alongside bioluminescence. Recent works have been based on biomorphic forms, which are sampled and reconstructed from different terrains, electron micrographs and television images. Coral Churchill was born in 1984, and graduated this year from Central Saint Martins with a degree in Fine Art.
