In Familiars (2008), wooden kitchen and sewing utensils, as everyday objects designed to be grasped or touched, manifest aspects of feminine form while embodying an arcane domestic purpose. They are encased in “flesh-colored" polymer doll maker's clay, their features aged or partially erased through further carving or sanding. The well-worn handmaids are diverted from their original intended necessity to a realm of play, presented as artifacts of childhood memory.
