My sustained interest in water compels me to create visual perceptions of water’s essence and properties, and water ecology. I cut, fold, incise, sculpt, stretch and tie paper, Mylar, tape and plastic to express ecological issues in two and three-dimensional work as well as in installations. It ranges from the dramatic ecosystem breakdown in the Great Lakes to the modest, almost overlooked poor water quality problems of Papillion Creek in Eastern Nebraska.

Rising Water
|
The installation “Rising Water”, in a rain forest on the side of a mountain at Deer Crossing The Art Farm, Gibsons, British Columbia, chronicles water’s physical and metaphysical power to unite, circulate, and connect by cyclical transformation. It uses multiple components of cut Mylar suspended in hemlock trees.
“Rain Garden” calls attention to biorentension measures for urban storm water runoff. It is constructed of multiple, unique lengths of cut paper placed inside a light box.
“Breakout II” traces the recurring, revolving movement of water under its surface to underscore water’s insistence to resist canalizing. It consists of multiple components of cut Mylar with acrylic ink.

Susan Knight was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is now based in Omaha, Nebraska. She holds a BFA in art from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. She has studied at University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, The Glassell School of Art, Houston, Texas, and The School of the Art Institute, Chicago, Illinois.
Among other honors, she is a recipient of several juror's awards, and a Nebraska Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship. She was an artist-in-residence at Ragdale in Lake Forest, Illinois, in 2009 and l997, and at the International School of Art in Montecastello di Vibio, Italy, in 1999.
