Using photography, video, sculpture and installation Bermudez's new work explores uncomfortable and often unmentionable issues surrounding marriage. She examines her past relationships and shares her stories in the three video channel installation: “As many times as necessary." Bermudez’ skepticism of the relationship between marriage and “happily ever after” is explored in the “Crystal goblet: wedding gift series”, where shattered antique wine glasses are reconstructed as delicate thorny flowers. The artist explores other aspects of couplehood, such as financial salvation and emotional redemption. The installation “Little birds” as well as the tired chipmunks (shown above) focuses on the more mundane aspects of living together and questions the balance between gender and house work. While Bermudez’ take on marriage is not always positive, the viewer senses hope in one piece in particular: a photograph of a beautiful blue sky with silver Mylar balloons drifting away and spelling the word ALWAYS. The series also includes images of the words YES and FOREVER.Her newest piece "WIFE", 32" wide, (shown below) has also displayed her swaying opinion of marriage.
