Connect the dots
recorded text (4‘07‘), sculpture, photography, 2016
A game of relations, connections, dots and lines.
The spoken text is combined with sugar on a thread, hanging into a blue bowl with salt water. On the wall, more dots and lines. Thanks to Guy for reading my text, to Didem for past work, to Simon for sending me music, to Polina & James and many more for putting thoughts into my head.
Venedig – revisited (film still)
Venedig - revisited
media variable, image/sound, 1991/2016
Many years ago, I seemed to recognise myself
in a portrait of my grandmother at my age.
Triggered by this shock, three losely connected
moments wide apart in time, are woven into a
narrative about photography, time, identity and
imagination, combined with the failed attempt
to re-stage the initial photograph.

3 conversations + 9 images, 2008/11
Part of the ongoing project 'be-longing'.
I am looking at the ambivalent desire to belong
to something, somebody, somewhere, through
talking to people dealing with similar questions
in different areas.
Sabine Hagmann works with photography, video, words, sound and people. She also creates interactive situations – often in collaboration with others.
Her practice circles around questions about who we are, how we move in and between worlds/ realities, how we relate to others. It is intrinsically subjective, using herself, her own experiences, her face, body, her voice; and very often she works with people close to her. She is interested in small-scale tales, basic questions, and everyday existential experiences.
Hagmann graduated from the School of Art in Zurich with a degree in Photography and with an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College/University of London.
She has been teaching since 2001 and is head of the Foundation Course at the F+F School of Art and Design in Zurich since 2011.
