Bears: 2003-07. Bears is a series of photographs of ordinary stuffed animals that have been turned inside out and re-stuffed. The images form a taxonomy of strange but oddly familiar creatures. Each bear's appearance is determined by the functional requirements of the manufacturing process. Simple patterns and devices that were never meant to be seen are now what form the bears’ physical traits and give each of them a unique personality; their fasteners become eyes, and their seams become scars. The images inspire a range of interpretations and conflicting emotions. They are at once hideous yet cute, disturbing yet endearing and they offer metaphors for our own experience.
Bears will be published by PowerHouse Books/Miss Rosen Editions in the Spring of 2007.

Promise me forever: 1997-98. Promise me forever is a series of photographs mimicking romance novel covers. I am interested in the idea of a mass produced disposable fantasy and the values that it promotes.

Future (perfect): 1998-2000. future(perfect) is a series of snow globes that commemorate the overlooked and undesirable moments in life. Unlike the generic souvenir, a private and intimate moment is encapsulated within each globe. Like a photograph the moment is static and can be contemplated and preserved; the narrative is only suggested leaving it’s conclusion and meaning up to the viewer. - Through photography and sculpture I question the way we view commonplace objects and mundane moments to reflect on how the memories and fantasies we construct influence our interpretation of our surroundings.
