I work in a variety of media – I make use of whatever medium best suits my intention. In my work I am fascinated by questions of scale, repetition and narrative. I explore these themes in different ways. Sometimes it is through abstract sculptures that seem to resemble the artefacts of a lost culture; sometimes it is through works in which landscape is miniaturised and replicated. In either case I invite you to complete in your imagination what I have left mysterious or unresolved in the work itself. I also exploit less tangible things such as reflections, light and shadows.

I am principally interested in landscape and memory. This is not so much to do with nature or land as with the way that places operate as an archive of human activity and memory. For me the paradigm is the retrieved object, one that has been unearthed, or perhaps collected from some far-off place.

As my work has developed I have increasingly exploited minimal form and repetition as a way of both achieving visual complexity and also subverting the notion of personal authorship. Sometimes the resulting forms are machine-like, sometimes they look like fossils, but always they are ambiguous. In my larger scale works I assemble these pieces into imagined museum collections and cabinets of curiosities.
