Artist Statement

This series of botanical abstractions blurs the line between an object and its shadow. Arranged as small scale installations, they are printed as photographic transparencies and mounted on glass. The images extend beyond their surface and play with our sense of perspective.

Informed by an academic background in anthropology and documentary media, Gina Fuentes Walker's work has been awarded fellowships and residencies from the Smithsonian Institution, Chashama and The Bronx Museum of the Arts. She has had solo exhibitions in Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina and in Germany, where a one year exhibition and a site-specific video installation were recently on view at Brauweiler Abbey near Cologne.
