Magic Hand 2005

The relationships between the audience, myself and the work is becoming increasingly integral to my practice.
Moving through a gallery space can often be a precarious and challenging experience with seemingly no clear boundaries or fixed identities. Areas of quiet contemplation and calmness can be interrupted with more aggressive, frantic and obsessive behaviour. Working directly in a given space helps me to explore in greater depth the possibilities of experiment and risk-taking. These spaces become an extension of my modest size studio where opportunities for display can become much more expansive and ambitious and free from conventions providing a heightened sense of uncertainty and anxiety. As a consequence this makes the work (and myself) feel more spontaneous, intuitive and ‘alive’.




Recent Projects have included Born Again at Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge, Installing Drawing (in collaboration with Ansel Krut), The Centre for Drawing, London and Take Over, Pump House Gallery, London.
