Carrie Solomon is a designer and artist, and has worked on paper and explored abstraction since 1998. The work references memory, daydreaming, anxiety and spontaneity. Some pieces are very small, nearly microscopic, much like the space a single impression takes up in the brain. They seem similar to a speck of glass imbedded in tar, prismatic and blinding in comparative sheen.
Intentionally, the marks fade in and out and suggest a further timeline beyond the small square. Often, the 'voice' of the work is the result of a lax hand, drawn without logic, as though the hand were asleep, functioning on impulse.
