Wanting to respond to life and my surroundings and having a desire or need to grasp, hold on to and preserve on a square piece of paper a moment in time sums up why I use a camera and create images. My approach I think is generally an intuitive one. While my work explores present existence, I scavenge from the past with my use of portions from found old photographs that help create a relevant thread from the past to the present. My experience as a painter has informed my use of color in the making of my images. I love stained glass and I suppose being from the South where there are many dilapidated houses and churches with colored glass, it has influenced the way I use color. Many of my photographs are little stained glass windows, fragments pulled together. The use of transparencies on a light box helps create a layered effect which in turn encourages multiple interpretations. To create even further translucence, I have had images printed on vellum. Past, present, future, distance, space, order, consciousness, subconciousness, abstracts, particulars . One image generally builds upon another and either furthers a thought or feeling or else becomes a new idea or suggestion.
