It is unusual that a painter, who for years continuously explored the possibilities of Abstraction, especially monochromes, abruptly turns to figuration. This break in the work of Andy Denzler is indeed determinably such. Even initial inspection reveals how strikingly his representational and abstract paintings –which continue to develop simultaneously- resemble each other: in color, color application and script. This is closely connected to the fact that the transition from image to abstraction or effigy took place not in an act of pure volition, but quasi in the subconscious. To his surprise the painter one day ascertains that in many of his new pieces more or less definite human silhouettes are emerging. Needless to say it was then a deliberate decision to make a political statement, as previously not absent from his thought but foreign to his work- the focal point, and to subordinate an entire series of work to a unifying concept as such.
