Falling Away from the Perfect.
The Lives and Deaths of statuary, are the fascination of Adam Burge. Inert forms are imbued with a new existence whilst the tropes of classical sculpture deflate, decompose and decay. Adam Burge's sculptures imply the passage of time, the deliquescence of the over-ripe and the re-discovery of the long lost and forgotten. Things that were missing are found whilst forms we expect to be complete are not whole and cry out for completion or healing. Thus, Adam Burge's work reflects upon our lives, the pasts we can no longer access, upon our own falling away from perfection and the uncertainties of the future.
