Biography
|
|
Born 1982 in Devon Abby graduated from Somerset College of Art; while a student her work was published in The Face. Soon after, the Exclusive Wellington Club in Knightsbridge exhibited ‘Foreign Policy’, just 2 months before the Iraq war. It wasn’t long before members, including Damien Hirst commented on the piece. The painting was then donated to the peace protestor Brian Haw at Parliament Square. However recently the Government passed a new law to ensure Brian's eviction. His Banner Display including the painting by Abby and the graffitit artist Banksy's work were destroyed by police in a dawn raid.

Abby’s work is typically painterly, using a melting pot of bold and impressionist strokes which encapsulate both narrative, and figurative subject matter.
Her work has become increasingly personal and the artist has found a new voice delivering devastating effects demonstrated in ‘My Desire' part of the White Hotel series. The piece depicts a love triangle including the artist herself as Zeus.
The Hospital Group, founded by Dave Stuart and Paul Allen recognized her as an emerging artist and offered her founder membership, She hopes to exhibit there this year. Last September Abby was invited by DACS to present a petition to the PM regarding the Artist Resale Right and was later interviewed by the BBC. Legislation is now in place.
Currently the artist is working on a new series 'Folklore'. The first piece 'death on the Rocks' depicts The Little Mermaid, slitting her wrists. To many, this is a perverse contradiction. The series follows on with equally distraught Disney Heroines, commiting suicide. Jackson points out that the ideology of the fairytale first introduced to her as a child has left her with optimistic ideals as an adult. '
I met my prince charming, who soon turned into the Prince of Darkness'

Her work is all at once suggestive and enshrouded - a powerful combination that gives her work graphic impact, with resonance.
