Biography

This work of art illustrates the phenomenon of opposed yet complementary and the dynamic tension that occurs when opposing forces cooperate.

Its spine arches like the stretching back of one released from restriction. Its lift compels our eyes to lift. It ascends and impacts our own physicality by moving us to act inspired by delivering a subconscious directive to raise our gaze.

My painting technique is called frottage. I wrap canvas around trees and rocks, apply paint to the canvas and, by rubbing, transfer the textures onto the canvas. These textures provide the foundation for my paintings, which are completed in my studio. Frottage painting is my way of collaborating with rocks and trees, and honoring them by amplifying their voices.

This sculpture is about being connected. It is a triumph of the spine. It is a triumph over "no backbone". It is a triumph of the spirit. When connected, your head is attached to your feet and you can think about what you do and actually do what you think.

On the other hand, it looks like a veggie.
